February 9, 2009, Glenview IL — One of the key areas in which the Metal Construction Association has been successful is advocacy — monitoring codes and taking action as needed to allow metal to be specified in more areas.

At its recent annual meeting the MCA presented John Miller with a Special Service Award to acknowledge his service and dedication to MCA.s code agenda during his term as chair of the MCA Codes and Standards Committee. Miller is now with MCPU Polymer Engineering, Corona, CA. He had been involved in code work since he relocated from New Zealand to the United States in 1989 and was well known for his comprehensive knowledge of codes.

“John’s name is synonymous with codes and standards throughout the construction industry. He’s always been considered a walking encyclopedia on codes and standards and could cite just about any code on state and national levels without looking it up. It’s through his leadership that MCA has been able to position metal in a positive way,” said MCA Technical Director Scott Kriner.

MCA is an organization of manufacturers and suppliers whose metal products are used in structures throughout the world. It promotes the use of metal in the building envelope through education, advocacy of industry codes and standards, research, technical programs, marketing and achievement awards. MCA also promotes the use of metal through METALCON International, its annual trade show and conference with a 48-session educational program and product exhibits from more than 300 companies. The 19th annual METALCON is slated for October 6-8, 2009 at the Tampa Bay Convention Center. Visit www.metalcon.com for more details.
